5 Awesome Web Design Resources

There is something so exciting about learning new things! During my journey from student designer to professional, I’ve come across some wonderful resources. I have such a wealth of links from other designers, artists, bloggers, and professionals– and I’d like to share some of them with you!

  1. How to Use CSS @Font-Face …This link helped me a great deal on the subject of web typography. The author goes through the motions with careful documentation and it’s all very easy to follow. And it can’t hurt that there’s legit smiley face syntax for CSS.
  2. Typography Unit Converter ..And while we’re on the subject of typography, this little calculator is a MAJOR help. If you’ve ever wondered how to compare a point to a pixel, or a pica to a millimeter– or if you’re just wondering how to use the word “Twip” in conversation, this is your resource!
  3. 25 Rounded Corner Techniques with CSS …Such a simple appearance, but it can be so complicated. You see rounded corners EVERYWHERE on the web because they’re smooth and unassuming and they don’t leave all those pointy edges sticking out. But there’s just so many options when you go to make them– find out here!
  4. How to Create A Favicon …Here’s one for the student designers out there. Creating a Favicon is one of the most important easy-detail-steps you can take to give your page a professional edge. Don’t leave your website all sad and lonely with that default icon the browser gives you!
  5. How to Assign Different Stylesheets to Different Browsers …Browser compatibility will always be a headache for web designers, because we want the page to look exactly the same everywhere– because that’s how we designed it. But alas, different browsers have different capabilities, and some are just prettier than others. But you can always fight for your right to equilateral browser appearance with CSS Stylesheet Exclusions.

I hope these links are helpful to other designers either just starting out or looking for some handy new resources. Until next time!
